Alcohol can be used as a disinfectant or for adhesive removal, but it has many other uses besides these ones, some of them even in cosmetics. You probably don`t know many of these alternative uses, so check them out:
Replacement for deodorant:
Don`t panic if you forgot the deodorant, and you are going away for couple of days. Rub some alcohol on the skin to kill the bacteria which are causing the bad odor. This solution should be only temporary, because using alcohol for too long can cause skin irritation.
Alcohol can also be used to get rid of lice. Put it in a spray bottle, mixed with a few drops of lavender oil, and spray the hair and scalp abundantly. Then comb the hair to remove the dead lice. After this, let the comb soak in the same mixture for an hour to make sure all the lice are dead.
Remove nail polish:
Almost every nail polish remover contains chemical acetone, that may damage the nails, or the fumes can make you nauseated. Replace it with pure alcohol. It will probably take longer to remove the nail polish, but the nails won`t get damaged.
The cream and ointments for treating acne contain benzoyl peroxide, but alcohol can have the same effect. The anti-inflammatory and soothing benefits will disinfect the pimples, prevent new ones from popping and sooth the surrounding skin. Apply it directly on the pimple, but don`t use it for too long because it can irritate the skin.
Alcohol is an excellent base for homemade hand sanitizer. For this you will need: ½ tbsp. of isopropyl alcohol, few drops of teatree oil and 4 ounces of aloe vera gel; mix all of the ingredients, seal them in a bottle and the hand sanitizer is ready.
The herpes virus is present in 85% of all people, but only some of them will experience break out. To treat this painful outbreak, apply 70% isopropyl alcohol on the affected area- this way the herpes sores will go away faster.
Free of ingrown hairs:
Red dots, which are ingrown hair, appear after shaving the armpits or the bikini line. And we all know how awful they look like. To remove them, apply some rubbing alcohol. This will sooth the skin and reduce irritations.
No matter how careful you are, bed bugs can sneak in your house in some way or another. Rubbing alcohol is one of the solutions. Spray the pillows and the mattress abundantly with rubbing alcohol, and repeat this a few times, because bed bugs lay eggs, and after a while new ones will appear.
DIY cool pack:
If you freeze some alcohol, it will turn into cold, thick mass, which can be useful for making your own cooling pad. Mix 1 part alcohol and 2 parts water in a sealable plastic bag, remove the air as much as you can, and put the bag in the freezer. In about an hour it should get the proper texture. Use it as an ice pack to sooth an injured knee or keep your lunch cool when you go for a hike.
Doctors constantly warn us that cleaning the ears with cotton swaps can be very dangerous because it buries the ear wax deeper in the canal. Here is an easy and healthy way to clean the ears: mix some rubbing alcohol and white vinegar, dip a cotton swap in the liquid, drop it in the ears and the ear wax will be removed on its own.
