I can bet that I won’t find one single person that will go and buy skin from a dog or a cat, at least not those who are in their right mind!
I just can’t imagine buying skin from any animal, but unfortunately for pigs and cows, their skin is acceptable because they are also a source for food.
But the skin of a dog or a cat is unacceptable, and it has been banned in the U.S since 2000. But, when PETA did a research, they actually found a very disturbing truth. They say that the cat and dog skin is being bought disguised as normal leather from China.
The investigators also discovered that more than 100 dogs are being slaughtered every days in slaughterhouses and are being imported to the U.S. for use in leather products.
The U.S. imports approximately $ 8.5 billion worth of leather from China every year! Although there is a fine of $10,000, the leather from a cow or pig, and leather from a dog or cat, is almost impossible to distinguish. So, the chances of selling cat and dog leathers in the U.S. stores is very likely.
The investigators are now demanding better regulation for the importation of leather, and so should we!
