Truvia is a sweetener that contains zero calories and therefore is not fattening and directly affects the regulation of the body weight. According to some studies, it has a positive effect on lowering the blood pressure. Truvia is used in traditional medicine as a natural balm with anti – inflammatory and antibacterial properties. A suitable sweetener for diabetics and for those who have problems with their weight, truvia has an excellent taste and it’s actually 200 times sweeter than sugar and it’s completely natural. So, if you look at these properties, you’d probably would think of a better product that this, right?
Currently, truvia, also known as stevia is the number one product that spreads very quickly across world markets with the mark that it’s completely natural, healthy alternative to refined sugar as a sweetener. But, is it any better than the other artificial sweeteners?
The bitter truth about the stevia sweetener is that is has not been proven that it is completely safe to use. The FDA has still not stated for this sweetener, but their official statement is that it is “mostly safe” for using.
Truvia sweetener is made from about 99.5% erythritol, which is a sugar alcohol, and 0.5% rebiana, an extract from the stevia plant, but it’s not quite the same thing as stevia. But, a shocking new study found that this sweetener is a potent insecticide that kills fruit flies which consume it.
Oh, and by the way, erythritol is often indirectly derived from genetically modified corn.
However, truvia is present nowadays very much, because of the marketing, which of course does miracles, but are those products containing it really natural? Fact is that stevia, in its original form is really effective and wonderful herb with many positive traits and there are also products on the market that are stevia extracts and are very beneficial for the health.
So next time, you should look at the composition of the product if you decide to use Truvia as a substitute for sugar.
