Today there are many forms of contraception, but still, there is no such thing as a 100% safe, natural and devoid of consequences, and who knows will it ever appear. Women have a choice and they should all know the risks and the benefits.
There are various side effects and each women experiences them differently, but these next side effects are the most common ones, and read carefully about them, see if you find yourself in any of them:
- The risk of blood clots among women using oral contraception is getting higher and higher each year. Women who smoke, or are overweight, over 35 or have recently given birth are considered at higher risk.
- Nausea – this is something that happens when you first start taking birth control pills, and is usually gone within a few days. It also might happen because the pill that is taken might contain high dose of estrogen which will irritate the stomach. It might help if the stomach is full when taking the pill, and to take it regularly at about the same time every day.
- Breast Tenderness – it might be a mild side effect, which will happen probably due to sudden hormonal changes from the pill. Of course, if you notice any abnormalities or a lump in the breast or experience persistent breast pain, contact your doctor immediately!
- Weight Gain – even if you gain a few pounds when you start to take the pill do not be surprised – it’s a very common thing and its temporary. This happens due to water retention rather than actual weight gain. Again, a pill that contains a high dose of estrogen will cause this side effect. It can lead to fat deposits in the thighs, hips and breasts. That’s why you should watch out on your diet and exercise daily.
