Many people suffer from toenail fungus. It is a painful problem which looks very bad. Fungus attack toenails more than finger nails because they thrive in moist, dark and warn environment, and your shoes are the perfect spot for them.
Toes have lower blood flow than the rest of the body, so it’s harder for the immune system to notice the fungus and send help.
This doesn’t mean you can’t fight the fungus. Here are some very simple and effective methods for treating toenail fungus, using homemade remedies.
- Baking soda
Baking soda is an antibiotic which helps treating toenail fungus.
Not only that it gets rid of the fungi, baking soda also creates alkaline environment where fungus can`t thrive, which will prevent future outbreaks.
Mix 2 parts of baking soda with 1 part of warm water, to get a paste. Apply the paste on the infected toenail and let it act for 20 minutes, then wash it off. Repeat the treatment twice a day.
- Oregano oil
Oil from oregano is one of the most powerful antiseptics derived from a plant. Plus it smells incredible leaving your toes fresh.
Mix 5 drops of oregano oil with 2 tsp. of olive oil (or any oil that will serve as a base for the remedy). Apply the mixture on the infected toenail and let it act for 10 minutes, then scrub the upper layer of the nail with a toothbrush. Rinse off the solution with warm water and completely dry the feet. Repeat the treatment every day.
- Apple cider vinegar
The antibacterial properties of the ACV have great results in getting rid of many different bacteria, like the toenail fungus.
Make an exfoliating scrub using 2 teaspoons of ACV and 1 tablespoon of rice flour. Apply the paste on the infected toenail, let it act for couple of minutes, then scrub the nail with a toothbrush. Rinse off the paste and pat dry the feet.
Repeat the treatment every other day.
This natural antifungal substance does smell a bit distinctive and strong, but shows great results in treating toenail fungus.

If the toenail fungus is very persistent or you are prone to this type of fungus, try all of the treatments to find the appropriate one, combine then or continue with the treatment as long as needed, indefinitely. These remedies won`t do you any harm, so make them your daily routine.
